Urashima
The ferry to Hotel Urashima is approaching a giant turtle-shaped boat sailing across a beautiful stretch of bay. You resist the urge to light up a cigarette while standing on the pier, it’s the 80’s in Japan. Surrounding you is only water.
You board and find a quiet place to sit. The controller strolls around, scanning each side of the alleys. Quiet, impeccably dressed up. A streak of light shines through the window in the sitting areas. You can’t help but noticing the softness of it, despite the strong geometry. A longing stirs for the hotel’s natural caves, the warmth of an onsen beckoning.
Yomura
Trekking along the Kumano Kodo trails on the opposite coast, amongst remote, hilly forests.
Kiri-no-Sato, the town the mist, this is how locals call it. The mist blends in with the light, constant rain. Air condenses and cools you down. The tops of the trees look vibrant and wet. The mountains around them, enclosing the secrets of the gods.
