Welcome to Miju

Miju is a photography duo and community rooted in the heart of Prague, bound together by a shared love for the art of seeing. In 2023, we traveled to Japan, and came back changed by it. The quiet of the temples, the way nature and craft seemed to move at the same pace, the attention paid to small, physical things. So when the name Miju came together, and we realized it echoed the Japanese characters for Water (水) and Tree (樹), it felt less like a coincidence and more like a confirmation of something we'd already started building toward. To us, it's a quiet reminder of the balance we look for in our work, and our connection to the natural world.

Art with Intent

Our work lives in contrast. The fast instincts of street photography, reacting to a moment before it's gone, and the timeless, quiet depth of black and white film, where every frame is considered before it's taken. Together, they cover the range of what photography can be, immediate and deliberate, color and black and white, digital and analogue. What connects them is what happens after the shutter: a frame worth printing, worth looking at twice, not just scrolling past.

That's the point of the print itself. In a world of endless scrolling, we make photography prints for people who want something to actually rest their eyes on. A physical piece of art that invites you to look rather than swipe past.

Community & Giving Back

Miju is more than two photographers with cameras. Every month, we organize photowalks across Prague and the Czech Republic, inviting photographers of all levels to slow down, explore, and connect. It's also why we built Fotostopy, our guide to the galleries, exhibitions, and places that make up Prague's photography scene, so the community has somewhere to keep exploring between walks.

Our love for nature goes beyond aesthetics, too. Each year, we set aside 10% of print sales for NGOs protecting forests and rivers, reviewing the recipient annually so the contribution goes where it's needed most. Taking home a Miju print means helping give something back to the places that inspired it.

Our Mission

To bridge the gap between the fast-paced modern world and the quiet rhythms of nature. Through photography and tactile prints, we aim to foster a community that values presence over pixels and preservation over consumption.

Experience

This section is a recognition towards our past teachers, commissioners and exhibition spaces.
