Photowalk in Tábor - July 2026
Lens on Tábor - stones, steel, and stories
Date: 12. 7. 2026
Place: Tábor

In July, we organised a photowalk in Tábor, where we met friends from České Budějovice. Tábor is located halfway between Prague and Budějovice, so it was a great opportunity for us to meet up and explore a new place together. Since Sofi studies history, she told us some interesting facts about the town. If you’re interested, here’s a brief history of Tábor:
Tábor was founded in spring 1420 by radical Hussites who became known as the Taborites. They built a fortified settlement on a hill and it quickly became the base for Hussite military campaigns, with Jan Žižka being their most famous commander. Following the Hussites’ loss at the Battle of Lipany in 1434, the Taborites made peace with King Sigismund, and Tábor became a royal town in 1437. From the end of the 15th century, the town grew quickly, acquiring its current appearance and building the Jordán reservoir in 1492. A few centuries later, in 1903, it gained the first electrified railway line in Austria-Hungary. Today, it is a busy crossroads in southern Bohemia.
Leaving history aside, we met at the train station and continued towards the centre. As usual, we stopped in Kavárna Zastávka for a coffee to get some energy before a walk. It’s a beautiful place, and we enjoyed our coffee outside. We found some cool spots to take photographs around there, like an old Royal Enfield motorcycle, strange objects behind the windows, and colourful walls.
We continued towards Jan Žižka Square, explored the surrounding area, and then headed down to walk around the Jordán reservoir. A triathlon race seemed to be taking place there, which gave us more opportunities to take photos of the competitors. The weather could have been nicer, but overall it was a very pleasant photo walk. Thanks to everyone who came.
